found some good tapes, including a reel of tape dara played me an excerpt of over the phone of james busting out some crazy overdriven frantic guitar solo weirdness. i think we'll have a nice james kopta/frank budgen CD available this spring. i was just reading the "old message board" page and remembering the whirlwind of the couple weeks after his passing. it still doesnt quite seem real. all the people who called, emailed privately, posted stuff on the board. that part was amazing. then the benefit. but now its all over and still wierd. seth and i were trading jim quotes the other night and at one point he laughed and shook his head saying "wow, im just never gonna get that guy outta my head" . yup, me neither. he had a presence that resonated so strongly it traverses time. he made impressions that will still ring true when we're 80.
