never called him jim...
he was james when i met him at the blast and the glasstones show at valentine's that summer...
having just returned from cape cod, my exhaustion translated into feeling a bit miffed that i had to sit in the pizza parlour next door for hours while this james guy infected aaron with that wild and unwise look in his eyes scheming their new music project...it could have been the reggae bad dudes, or maybe just the scrap of paper from aaron's ever-present pocket notebook reading "so it begins"...
i was mesmerized by him, and all too flattered that he told aaron i was "cute"...
he then became kopta, with an occasional budgen thrown in at appropriate times...
i've been reading this message board since it was created...there are pictures of me on this site...i've tried to write something here all this time...
aaron and i woke late in the afternoon that august day...one of those lovely unemployed summer days, we were going out for food when arsenault called...i knew by the tone of aaron's voice...
once, at my childhood home in vermont, i made kopta laugh heartily...we were renaming aaron as a warrior poet druid after his triumphant sheep wrestling earlier that day...
there was a priviledged feeling about knowing kopta...like being in on a hilarious private joke that only we knew...blaming the free masons for september eleventh and mice for chewing through the wires in his car...i am blessed to have been his friend...
still miss him, i guess that will never change...
thanks for listening,
gillian
