This fourth collection of Rick Veitch’s Eisner-nominated dream comics contains a complete pair of graphic novellas, originally serialized in Roarin’ Rick’s Rare Bit Fiends #21-25, exploring the deepest mystical dimensions of dreaming.
“Subtleman" focuses on what Veitch calls shamanic dreams; that illuminate and reveal a greater reality hidden beyond our five senses. Drawn over a twenty-five year period, Subtleman chronicles meetings with remarkable dream people, fantastic creatures, living myths and stray gods while conveying the experience of touching higher dimensions and the bliss of the lucid dream state.
"The Art Of Mercurius" details Veitch’s personal investigative dreamwork in pursuit of a deeper communion with psyche and nature, characterized by visionary experiences, synchronicities and the appearance of autonomous dream characters right out of 16th century alchemy.
Rick Veitch is a prolific comic book writer and artist who rose to prominence with his work for DC in the 1980s, most notably on Swamp Thing. His extensive list of creator-owned projects includes Bratpack and The One, from his own King Hell Press and later from IDW Publishing, and Can't Get No and Army@Love from Vertigo. He also collaborated with Alan Moore on several titles from Image and Wildstorm, including 1963, Supreme, and America's Best Comics.
