Crowell's first album runs the gamut, showcasing everything from stripped back folk to produced country pop, all with a knowing wink. Following up on the recording sessions of her first band, Jane Only, Crowell recorded her eponymous solo debut with Nashville producer Loney John Hutchins. The two play on a majority of the record and Crowell even manned the controls at times. Featuring additional musicians such as William Tyler and Brian Kotzur of the Silver Jews band, Chelsea Crowell explores everything from historic yarns in Where the Hell Is Robert E. Lee to deeply personal songs such as The Run.
