Just received a purchase. Had to have an original Monterey (song) album. Dead wax tells me it is a 1968 press SIDE 1 MGS-1364 REV 41 [Block-shaped S]. I got very lucky. Jacket has problems. Inner sleeve is well used but the record looks pristine and plays perfect. I had to listen to the whole recording. Some I have heard many times over the years since Skypilot came out. What is new to me is the best parts of buying vinyl records. Life is still good. This helps a lot.

One of the best, most influential records of the psychedelic era. Listening now, after all these years, it still sounds fresh and it's
easier to see how bands as diverse as Quicksilver Messenger Service and Moody Blues found inspiration here. Cavalry, on Happy Trails is a direct descendant of We Love You, Lil here. Om, on In Search Of The Lost Chord, is a direct descendant of All Is One here.
And, can we get some love for John Wieder and Vic Briggs, the criminally underrated guitar duo that Burdon brought in and laid the foundation for all the hit records of the second Animals iteration. Wieder's violin playing could have been the first by a rock band on When I Was Young in mid 1967. Briggs, although not the first to play sitar in a rock setting (Brian Jones), definitely made an impact on Moody Blues and others. A shame this band only lasted about two years.

Downer of a record, for sure. But musically adventurous and tremendous.

There is a US mono promo copy of this LP (I own one). Surprised there is no listing here.

The Blue/Gold label is technically a second pressing. Original pressings of this have the black MGM label, but are hard to find. Harder yet is the promo white label version of that label design.
