Marvel Premiere #28: The Legion of Monsters
Marvel Premiere #28: The Legion of Monsters
During the FREAK SCENE art show, which happened in July, 2012 in Los Angeles, Pat Aulisio, Josh Bayer and Keenan M. Keller sat around, talked shit, listened to records and jammed on random pages from a single, monster focused issue of Marvel Premiere, issue #28 (w/ Tom Neely adding his pages during a feverish "live drawing" session days later…). Inside had a story featuring The Legion of Monsters: Ghost Rider, Jack Russell Werewolf by Night, Man-Thing, Morbius the Living Vampire, and he who is called STARSEED. This is the final product. a random, loose non-narrative-ish, "re-telling" of that comic… and it is awesome.
Marvel Premiere #28 has gained far more than what would be expected in interest out on the interwebs, especially for what is generally considered such a mediocre comic outing, despite having art from the always stellar Frank Robbins. There are many reviews to be found. Pretty much all bad. The thing typically fetches over $10, even in lower conditions. What's the deal? No one seems sure. This reading of the contents seems a fair evaluation and is one relevant to this re-interpretation.
