The first half of The Kamandi Challenge Special is a facsimile reprint of Jack Kirby's original Kamandi #32, which was a giant-sized special issue that included a new story, as well as a map of Earth-AD and the first Kamandi story originally published in Kamandi #1.
The tail end is a black and white reprint of the unpublished Kamandi #60 & 61 as they appeared in Cancelled Comic Cavalcade #2. These featured the stories "Into the Vortex" and "I'll See You in My Nightmares!" by Jack C. Harris, Dick Ayers and Danny Bulandi which frame the Kirby story "The Seal Men's War on Santa Claus". This run of stories is a crossover with the Joe Simon and Jack Kirby 1970 Sandman and his world of The Dreaming with Brute and Glob.
